Under the dedicated leadership of principal Aristide, Liberty City’s Miami Northwestern High School has transformed from a perennial  “D/F” school to an “A” school in just a few short years. The school has seen remarkable increase in graduation rates from 64 percent to over 83 percent.

In 2013, Miami Northwestern Senior High School achieved its first “A” grade in the school’s history, according to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Miami Northwestern has historically been ranked “D/F” in the state’s school accountability ratings. With the help of various partnerships such as City Year, Communities in Schools, Teen Outreach Program, and the Algebra Project, as well as the Education Effect, Northwestern has seen a remarkable turnaround. The focus on these partnerships is to improve student achievement, increase graduation rates, and promote a pathway to post-secondary education.

The school has seen remarkable increase in graduation rates from 64 percent to over 83 percent (a number higher than the district average). An increase in the percentage of students earning a 3.0 GPA or higher has increased from 15% to 45%. Student accepted to post-secondary education has increase 10% with more than $5 million in scholarships earned for higher education.
